Smoked Mackerel Pâté

An easy, creamy gluten-free pâté that lets the smoked mackerel speak for itself.

This smoked mackerel pâté is so easy that you can have it prepared and in the fridge in less than 10 minutes, even for a pottering cook. My husband usually adds a bit more horseradish for that extra kick and even enjoys dipping radishes in.

Gluten-Free Smoked Mackerel Pâté

Easy smoked mackerel pâté

Serves 2 (generous portion)

  • 2 peppered smoked mackerel fillets
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese (reduced fat is fine)
  • 2 tbsp crème fraîche
  • ½ tsp horseradish sauce
  • pepper
  • salt
  • dried dill (fresh if you have it)
  • cucumber to serve
  • lemon slices to serve

  • Simply put all the ingredients in a food processor and whizz until smooth or your desired consistency. I usually leave a few chunks of mackerel.
  • Spoon into a small ramekin dish and chill until required.
  • Serve with lemon slices, cucumber, toast or try with my Cracker Thins.

This is a delicious, versatile pâté. If you add a little more crème fraîche you can make it more like a dip and serve with crudités. Rustic spread on toast or sophisticated served in ramekins with cucumber slices, lemon and cracker thins - the choice is yours.
